Flavorah in MixLife Episode 27 – New Flavors

2:50 – FLV Root Beer

The elephant in the room. It’s incredible, everything you could ever want in a craft root beer. Slight, dark sweetness. Good, herbal top body. Can’t say enough good things about it. Can go low or high with it. Top notes carry through in the low percentages. Would be good with ginger beers, ginger ales, spiced rum mixes. Kopel says it’s his favorite so far, and he wants more. 🙂

6:00 – FLV Vanilla Bean

Concrete is excited about this one. Really interesting vanillin-type additive for that kind of vanilla flavor. Will not be a solo-vape. Darker vanilla, but soft, and not overly aggressive. Tough to describe, very gentile and versatile.

7:20 – FLV Blackberry Blossom

Kopel’s next favorite. A really good, reliable blackberry, but not overly perfume-like or floral. Has similar floral base to FLV Honey Bee, but not nearly aggressive. Better balanced than FLV Honey Bee. Will mix well with fruits, cocktails, and tobaccos. It’s dark and juicy, without going into the “jammy” territory. Keep it below 2% if you aren’t pairing with tobaccos.

9:30FLV Sangria

Tastes like a borderline fruity brandy. If you give it a week, it steeps down to something similar to a mulled wine. It definitely needs time to steep. Smells like a good wine.

10:30FLV Pucker

Name is a little bit mis-leading. It’s more of a tobacco additive that adds tart, leafy, bitter apple finish. Tartness up front, with a finish that could help mellow out harsher tobaccos like FLV Arabian Tobacco.

12:50FLV Popcorn

Has a little sweetness without going into a full-on kettle corn flavor. Potentially work well with caramel, butterscotch, cream, ice cream, etc.

14:58FLV Oak Barrel

Authentic, not too potent, and a little sweet. FLV Bourbon has a stronger wood note. Would work well as an additive, without bringing in as much body. Pretty high top note. Can safely take it up to 2%.

17:03FLV Nectarine

Pretty authentic nectarine if not a little syrupy and overripe. Throat hit would be less noticeable in a mix. Suggest 1.5 – 1.75% standalone percentage.

18:52 – FLV Apricot

They both are loving this one. Borderline overripe note, but pretty authentic overall. Concrete gets a little bit of a black tea note to it. Syrup-like note and heaviness could be a good tool for peach filling style bakery mixes. One of Kopel’s favorite fruit flavors.

22:25 – FLV Red Velvet

Best depth compared to other FLV cake flavors. Good body. A moist birthday cake vibe, like from a store-bough box, with a hint of frosting, but would still need more frosting. Has serious potential.

24:56 – FLV Smoked Butterscotch

Not as potent as FLV Butterscotch. Smoke note doesn’t come out until you get it around 2 – 3% as a standalone. It’s a sweet wood smoke, not a burnt, ashy note. Smells incredible. Will go really well with tobaccos and could be an interesting sub straight FLV Butterscotch.

26:50 – FLV Graham Cracker

Really delicious and the graham flavor is definitely there, but with more of a soft, cookie vibe. Built top heavy and will be useful to add a graham taste, but don’t need a ton of crunchy body.

28:20 – FLV Morning Mimosa

One of Kopel’s favorites. Concrete notes that it takes a minute to warm up to it if you’re single flavor test it. There’s a carbonation-like taste to it. Could be used to pull a lot of things together at 0.5 – 0.75% in a mix. Kopel mixed it up with Apricot 1:1 and it was really good, delicious. Works really well when mixing with other fruits. Non-aggressive champagne-like flavoring to it.

31:40 – FLV Moscato

More of a muscat grape (the grapes used to make a moscato) opposed to a wine, but the grape note is magical. This could be great in a jam, maybe pairing well with FLV Boysenberry.

32:46 – FLV Lembas Bread

Similar to FLV Blueberry Muffin, without the blueberry. Moist muffin vibe, a sweet bread with a very vague fruity note to it. Could easily be mixed in a cupcake recipe as well.

33:36 – FLV Carrot

Really authentic carrot. Straight from the garden, fresh peel flavor. Not really a bakery carrot unless you use it at a really low percentage. Would work better with fruit mixes, recipes with ginger, or along those lines. Very strong, will want to start low (~0.25%) and work your way up in recipes.

35:30 – FLV Amaretto Sour

Good, boozy cocktail. Cherry almond notes, more cherry than almond. Bitter almond extract flavor almost, with more of that cherry note. The sour part is more prominent fresh. After a week, the sour note fades and it becomes a warm, sticky dark bakery cherry note. Would be good used to back up cherry flavors and baked goods, with the caveat that as you take it higher there is a cooling note to it. Really good as a SNV at 3%.

37:12 – FLV Granola

Really nice rounded, soft granola flavor, without the crunch. Good to pair with fruits and yogurts/creams. Almost like a baked, dark granola. A solid, clear granola flavor to it.

40:04 – FLV Pastry Zest

Smells like a box of crispy creme donuts with that donut-like frosting note. Concrete thinks it’ll be more of an additive. Lemon tartness at first and a cinnamon-warmth sugar note on the end. Pair well with fruit forward bakery mixes.

41:40 – FLV Hazelnut

Creamy hazelnut, without being super bold. Almost like a smooth hazelnut coffee creamer. The creaminess could work with chocolates and ice creams.

43:34 – FLV Brulee

An accurate, good brulee flavoring. Rich, dark flavor. Would hold up well to other brulee flavorings out there, but stronger. Would need something to brighten it up and add contrast to its dark-ness.

44:50 – FLV Peppermint

A good, straight candy cane. Concrete got heavy menthol/cooling note, but it is a really smooth cool note, with just enough sweetness to keep it from being too aggressive. Kopel enjoyed it at a 0.5% standalone, said it was really smooth. Concrete tried at 3% standalone and said it was crazy cooling, but still smooth and not aggressive, which he liked.

46:30 – FLV Smooth Vanilla

A bright and frosting type of vanilla. Not a ton of body, so maybe more of a vanilla additive. Brighter, smooth vanilla opposed to FLV Vanilla Bean which is a darker, spicier vanilla. Kopel tests at 54:30 – notes a little aggressive at 1% and a little bit of creamy, body to it.

57:22 – FLV Wheat

Concrete and Kopel had slightly different notes for this one.

Concrete: Is not overly aggressive (at 1%) like some dough-like flavors. Not a ton of texture, but tastes bread-y. Tastes kind of like proofing bread dough smells.

Kopel: Definitely wheat-ish. Potential for some interesting recipes. A nice full-on grain flavor, but not bread. Thinks it would be good in tobaccos and bakeries. Not offensive and more of a top note.

Overall, they think they are all going to have a place in the vaping world.
