Quick Tidbits About Featured Mixer ID10-T

ID10-T’s Introduction to Vaping

“Like most of the crazy things I’ve done, there as a woman at the center of it. I started smoking at 15 and was up to at least a pack a day at 16. Starting at 21, I tried to quit several times with patches and gums and cold turkey but always fell back into smoking. When my first son was born in 2010, I finally managed to stop cigarettes long-term, but only by switching to Snus, another nasty tobacco habit. In September 2014, about 21 years after I started smoking, I spent a romantic weekend in a hotel with an old flame who’d brought along a small pen-type e-cig someone had bought her, to use in the room. I’d never seen one up close before. She was still very new to it and still smoking cigarettes as well, but she shared it with me and I was grateful for the nicotine that I didn’t have to get dressed and leave the room for even if I did find it to be a bit weird. I’d left the Snus at home because nobody wants to make out with that. In fact, I’d never told her about my smokeless tobacco habit. I’d only told her that I’d quit cigarettes and she was so proud of me for that. Yet, I was taking cigarettes from her when we left the room for dinner and such and we shared one when we said goodbye. She made me promise when she gave me cigarettes that it was only for the weekend, that I wasn’t going to start smoking again for her. But, of course, I bought a pack of Marlboros on the way home, as if on autopilot. I hated that pack and especially hated how horribly urgent that need to buy another felt as soon as it was gone. But I didn’t buy another. I wanted to keep as much of that promise as I still could, so I went to the local vape shop and bought a Vision Spinner, a Nautilus Mini, and some house juice, and never smoked again.”

The Leap Into DIY Mixing

“A couple of months later, my Vision Spinner was replaced with an iStick. Same woman again, now also a non-smoker, suggested I try some juices from Dragonfly E-Cig out of Dallas, because she enjoyed them. They had a few storefronts and a website, and on that website something caught my eye: Design your own juice. Choose two or three flavors and one or two additives and they’ll mix them up for you. The mixes I “made” that way were way overpriced and frankly terrible, but it got me thinking, if they can do that, why can’t I? I stumbled around online until I found the DIY_eJuice subreddit on Reddit.com.

ID10-T’s Suggestions For Those That Want to Get Into DIY But Are Intimidated or Unsure

“For those who want to get into DIY but are unsure, I say find a group of experienced mixers to help you. It doesn’t have to be the subreddit. There are groups on Facebook, YouTube, various sites. But if there’s one thing DIYers are, it’s helpful. Experienced DIYers are always happy to help and share. Find some well-regarded recipes that appeal to you. Follow them at first, then start to experiment with tweaking them to fit your taste before mixing your own.”

Vape Community Involvement

A moderator on the DIY_eJuice subreddit, one of the hosts of the “Noted” flavor review show on the DIYorDIE YouTube channel (a channel which is another great resource for mixers), a semi-regular guest on other YouTube shows, a member of the E-Juice Makers mixing team, an active participant in various DIY juice facebook groups, distributor for the Mixers’ Club (one of the forums on the ejuicemakers site), and probably most importantly, a juice mixer who shares recipes and reviews others’ recipes on AllTheFlavors.com.

What is The Best Way For People to Advocate for Vaping?

“When it comes to vaping advocacy, everyone finds different ways of doing their part. The “best” way is do what you do best or most enjoy doing. For me, that’s trying making not smoking more fun and engaging with my involvement in the mixing community. Others are great at making sure they donate money or spend it with businesses that donate. Others can focus on the most directly lifesaving form of advocacy out there, helping at least one person in their lives to switch from smoking and stay off the cancer sticks.”
