Kopel’s Introduction to Vaping

Kopel had been a smoker for over 20 years. During a training mission with the army, he ran out of cigarettes. After a day or two of suffering, one of his soldiers offered him a cheap ego pen and some shop juice they had with them. The substitute was enough to take the edge off, and as Kopel went on the next few days, he noticed that he didn’t really miss smoking all that much. The flavor was decent enough to keep him from wanting to go back, so he bought a starter kit the day after he returned.

The Leap Into DIY Mixing

It wasn’t too long after he bought his first vape. After buying a few rounds of house juices that were “okay” but lacking in consistent quality, he discovered the DIY sub-Reddit and it all went downhill fast from there.

Kopel’s Suggestions For Those That Want to Get Into DIY But Are Intimidated or Unsure

“It’s not Rocket Appliances. It’s pretty easy once you get a feel for what you like in a vape and how to approach that specifically. There are even One Shots available that are basically ready made add VG/PG/Nic to that make it even easier. It can be as easy or complicated as you want it to be. Take a long time to read reviews, watch tutorials, and make sure you assemble your first order based on some vetted public recipes.”

What is The Best Way For People to Advocate for Vaping?

“Vote. Donate to groups like CASAA and participate with their programs whenever you’re able to. They’re here to advocate on our behalf but they can’t do that without our support. Talk about it with your friends and family who will listen, and to other vapers. Get involved at the local level, go to town halls and speak when you have the chance.”
